DEFINITION
A chair whose upper part, including the seat, can rotate in the horizontal plane and can be adjusted in height.

DEFINITION
Chair — any chair designed for single-person use other than a work chair.

Furniture used for storing items — wardrobes, almirahs, cabinets, cupboards, modular kitchen units and other storage furniture.

Are any manufacturers exempt from Furniture QCO 2025?
Goods manufactured exclusively for export are exempt, as are manufacturers with annual turnover below ₹5 crore. All other covered manufacturers must obtain a BIS licence.
What is product grouping, and how does it save cost?
Grouping allows multiple furniture models to be covered under one BIS licence by testing only a single representative Lead Model, provided all models belong to the same family under BIS grouping guidelines. Correct grouping dramatically reduces testing cost and time.
Do I need an in-house testing laboratory?
Manufacturers must set up an in-house testing laboratory with the required equipment as per BIS norms before applying, with relaxations available for MSMEs. Government fee concessions also apply for domestic manufacturers — 80% for micro, 50% for small and 20% for medium units. We support complete lab setup as part of our service.
What is the validity of a BIS licence for furniture?
The licence is initially valid for one year and is renewable, subject to ongoing surveillance, marking-fee payment and post-licence compliance requirements.
