Overview BIS FMCS Registration in Arunachal Pradesh
FMCS Certification is a regulatory framework that typically applies to countries or regions where medical devices or products are manufactured and then exported to other countries for sale or distribution. Under FMCS, foreign manufacturers must obtain a certification or authorisation from a regulatory body in the importing country or region. This certification confirms that the manufacturing facilities, processes, and quality management systems comply with the importing country’s regulatory standards for medical devices. This scheme enables overseas applicants/manufacturers to use the standard mark, which is also called ISI Mark, to sell their products in India.
Role of BIS in FMCS Certification in Arunachal Pradesh
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) plays a significant role in the FMCS (Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme) certification process in India. Here’s how BIS contributes to FMCS certification:
Setting Standards: BIS is responsible for establishing standards for various products to ensure their quality, safety, and reliability. These standards are used as benchmarks for evaluating products under the FMCS.
Certification Process: BIS operates a certification scheme where foreign manufacturers can apply for certification of their products to be sold in India. This involves testing the products against relevant Indian standards and issuing the necessary certification if the products meet these standards.
Product Categories: BIS covers a wide range of product categories under its certification schemes, including electronics, electrical equipment, automotive components, textiles, chemicals, and more. Manufacturers exporting these products to India often need BIS certification to comply with Indian regulations.
Quality Assurance: BIS certification signifies that a product meets Indian quality and safety standards, providing assurance to consumers and regulatory authorities alike.
Market Access: BIS certification is often a prerequisite for importing products into India. Without BIS certification, products may face delays or restrictions at customs.
Surveillance and Monitoring: BIS conducts surveillance and monitoring activities to ensure that certified products continue to meet the required standards over time. This includes periodic inspections and audits of manufacturing facilities.
Public Awareness and Education: BIS also plays a role in educating manufacturers, importers, and the public about standards compliance and the importance of certified products.

The renewed certificate is valid for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years. The manufacturer has to pay the minimum fee required to renew the certificate. A late fee of INR 5,000 is imposed if the certificate is renewed after the expiration period.
By following these guidelines, foreign manufacturers can ensure compliance with Indian standards and gain access to the Indian market.
